Thap Ba Ponagar, Nha Trang

Tomorrow we are planning on getting a sleeper coach north to Hoi An, so we thought we should stop lazing on the beach and see the rest of Nha Trang that we hadn't yet explored. We went for another top breakfast, both me and Izzy had banana pancakes and a Lipton tea with condensed milk (which makes it really sweet). They serve tea in a tumbler! Time to get the fisheye lens out, it's been a while.

After breakfast we took a taxi to a Pagoda called Thap Ba Ponagar (Pagoda/Ponagar is Vietnam's word for a temple). There aren't as many temples in Vietnam as there are in Thailand, at least it seems that way, but Thap Ba Ponagar is really impressive as it was built in 781 AD! It is made with a type of red brick so it's nearly a ruin now, but there are still shrines inside the towers which people visit daily to worship. There are plenty of statues around depicting Ganesh and Shiva who are gods shared between the Hindus and the Buddhists.

There is another market near the Pagoda which is apparently more for locals, so we thought we would check it out and flagged a taxi. Only trouble is that after trying to explain to the taxi driver that we wanted to go to Vinh Hai market not Cho Dam market, we were miles in the wrong direction, but we got there in the end. The market wasn't really worth the hassle though to be honest, it was all really cheap fake clothes (yes, even cheaper and more fake than the Cho Dam market). Back to the beach it was to try and stand up to the massive waves and buy some more Mentos from another of our favourite locals.

While I was getting Izzy's Lomo film developed I saw quite a cool little bike, a classic Honda Super Cub 50. Ok, not the greatest bike in the world but it looks cool compared to all the boring bikes here.
